Titles wins full report

Date: Fri 25th November 2016

Two St Marys juniors were in action in the NABCG south east regional finals at Harlow Dog track on Sunday November 20th. First up was 15 year old Hayden Sanders, who took on S. Martin (Harwich, Essex) at class A under 52kgs. Having been working on upping his workrate, Sanders started faster than usual and looked to score with combinations against his slightly taller local opponent. Martin tried to use his straight punches to keep Sanders at bay and the first round looked close. However, Sanders stepped up a gear in the 2nd and managed to pin the Essex champion on the ropes to clearly take the 2nd round. More of the same in the 3rd round, commented the judges decision on points.

Next up was 17 year old Lewis Southgate, who was up against the big punching W. Ahmed (Southend) at class C under 56kgs. Southgate started well with jabs often keeping his seaside based opponent of balance, but wasn't quite busy enough to keep Ahmed from coming back with strong hooks in an even first round. Southgate listened to his coaches instructions of increased workrate in 2nd and by the 3rd round he began to pin Ahmed on the ropes to pepper him with shots to head and body for a points victory.

Both now look forward to the national quarter finals at the same venue on Sunday 27th Nov. Both face top opponents from Londons famous Repton boxing club, but will be looking to claim good scalps.
