Lens revisit to club for his 90th birthday

Date: Sat 26th June 2021
St Mary’s abc history
Hope you had a great birthday Len from all of the 2021 team

Leonard (Len) Everden (born 1931)   celebrating his 90th Birthday visiting his old boxing club. Len started boxing at the club at the age of 14, when he was asked to join by Ernie Magog in about 1945. The club at that time was situated at the back of the town hall. The  club then had to move and was offered our current premises. Len remembers helping to prepare it so they could use it to train.
Ernie and Len worked together at the dockyard. He boxed for the next 3-4 years and then entered national service where he boxed for the RAF for the next three years. He then returned to the club for a few years but stopped Boxing when he had a family. A clipping of the day below when Len returned to the club to meet one of the original trainers. Another picture of Len, he is the Guy in the vest.
