This weekend St Marys Amateur boxing club of Chatham were represented in the prestigious Haringay box cup held over three, days at the Alexander place London.
The annual competition features over 300 boxers from all over Europe.
Flying the flag for St marys was 18 year old Great Briton development boxer, Daniel Woledge.
In the 75kg youth semi final on Saturday,  Woledge boxed for a place in the final against Heart of Portsmouth boxer Matteus Chewowski. The first round saw the boxers feeling behind there jabs, each looking for an opening in the others defense. Dan was up off the stool early for the second and looked keen to back amongst the action, he landed a heavy lead hand hook which got a reaction from the crowd and hurt the Portsmouth boxer, Dan quickly capitalized by increasing his work rate and the referee stepped in and gave a standing count. When the boxing resumed Dan could sense victory and continued with the pressure which pushed his opponent back onto on the ropes. Dan landed a high volume of punches and the referee again stepped in, gave a final count and stopped the contest at 1 minute and 3 seconds into the 2nd round, booking Woledge a place in Sundays final.

In the final on Sunday Dan was up against Ryan Dervan a well seasoned Irish Champion and International. From the moment the first bell went you could see it was going to be a high class contest as both boxers we're looking to exploit the others defenses. With his opponent looking to counter punch from behind a high guard, Dan increased his work rate, and along with his classy footwork and lightning hand speed began to dominate. The Irish boxer had not come to lose and Dervan had success with shots, however Woledge was always in control landing scoring shots.
At the final bell Woledge had his hand raised for a unanimous points win, and a gold medal.
Its a great end to the season for Dan and the club.
Dan Woledge is currently on team GB development squad with the potential to represent
England in Rio at the 2016 Olympics.
