Tyrone reaches schoolboy finals!

Date: Tue 23rd May 2017

11 year old Tyrone Clarke travelled to Milton Keynes to compete in the National semi final of schools Boxing championships on Sunday 21st May. He could have been forgiven for having a few nerves beforehand as he was up against one of the coaches sons from the famous Repton Boxing club in East London. Clarke was pitted against Reptons Tony Scott, in the minors class at under 48kgs. London champion Scott came out with intent as he immediately went on the attack after the first bell. However, the Chatham based Clarke kept his composure in the early exchanges and after landing several hurtful punches, Scott started to back off and by the end of the first round Clarke had taken control. More of the same in the 2nd round, with Clarke landing so many clean punches, the doctor had to inspect Scotts bloodied nose. In round 3, the Greenacre school student Clarke showed his dominance when the referee had to step in and give Scott a rest by giving him a standing 8 count and although the game Scott made it through to the final bell; there was only one winner in Clarke, by unanimous points verdict. Clarke now joins fellow Y7 Greenacre student and St Marys clubmate Enriko Itauma in the National finals in Manchester on Sunday 28th May. Already standing 6 foot tall and weighing 72kgs, there was no one in the south of England of appropriate standard for Itauma to box, so he received a walkover to the National schoolboy finals in Manchester. Both Chatham based boys share a lot in common: both are undefeated, both are Y7 students at Greenacre school, both are southpaws and both will be hoping to bring the National titles back down the motorway to Medway on Sunday!
