Tri Nations for Orton

Date: Tue 31st May 2016

In the Tri nation championships in Scotland, after receiving a walkover to the 60kg final, Louise Orton (St Mary’s) lost to Charlene Jones (Wales) pts unan. According to England coaches, Louise's sharp counter-punching was cancelled out by her strong  opponent. After four rounds Jones did just enough to deserve her win. However, 25 year old Orton came home with a silver in her first international for England and looks forward to a GB assessment next weekend.

15 year old  St Marys junior Hayden Sanders boxed the experienced Toby Salmon on his homeshow in Hastings sat night. According to coach Dave Bowler,  he lost a very close split decision at 51kgs that could have gone either way (a point deduction looked to seal his fate).
Onto schools semi finals sunday in Milton Keynes, Dion Eede was up against defending national champion Adam Azim (Pinewood Starr) at class 2 under 48kgs. 14 year old Dion started brightly and matched the champion in an even first round. However, Azim stepped up a level and came back strong rounds 2-3 showing why he is so highly touted and Eede went down on points. Eede didn't disgrace himself and can be proud of scoring 3 good wins to get there and showed you have potential to get to top level with more experience.
