NABCG Championships

Date: Wed 1st November 2017

15 year old St Marys boxer Javan Dosunmo travelled to Birmingham with his coaches to compete in the National junior novice championships on Sat 28th Oct. Having won his previous 2 bouts, he had showed he had talent, but was always going to be up against it, against an opponent T. Musker (Liverpool) with 7 wins from 9 bouts. Javan showed promise and took the fight to the reigning National junior cadet champion, but was just one step behind his classy southpaw Liverpudlian opponent. After three rounds, Musker was declared a points winner but knew he had been in a fight. Javan's coaches were pleased with his performance in the class A under 44kgs category and are confident if he comes back and gains experience, the result could be different if they meet again down the line.

Elsewhere for St Marys, Saturday and Sunday saw the start of the NABCG championships, with a large entry of 8 entered. 3 were given walkovers through and 5 had to compete in order to progress.
2 good wins against 2 experienced opponents on Saturday and Sunday, saw 15 year Dion Eede win the Southern regional title at class A under 60kgs. 18 year old Lewis Southgate scored 2 stoppage wins to win his Class C under 56kgs title. 16 Year old Robert Caswell had a good win in Saturdays semi final, but lost a close final on Sunday in the class C under 52kgs category. Ronnie Murray and Sam Dawson both scored good wins in their straight regional finals on Sunday in class A under 46kgs and Class C under 64kgs repectively. So a busy weekend brought 7 wins from 9 championship bouts ,which was a very good return, bearing in mind the level of opposition they were up against.
The 4 that went through join Karol Itauma, Javan Dosunmo and Jacey Birch in the next round on the 19th November.
