Oliver Edwards was St Marys ABC’s first competitive boxer in action this season in the Senior novices Kent and Surrey championships in Camberley last Sunday. With no Surrey entries in his weight class, it came down to a Medway battle as the 18 year old was drawn against G.Harvey (Strood). In the under 10 bout under 75kg category, Edwards started brightly in his usual busy fashion and caught Harvey with several clean punches in the first two rounds. Harvey stuck to his task though and although he had some success in the third, it was the Edwards who was awarded a unanimous points victory. This puts him through to the southern counties finals at the same venue next weekend. This win was Edwards 4th win in as many fights since taking up boxing last season and he is looking like a good prospect for the future.

This coming Sunday (13th), St Marys have two boxers entered in the National Ambition Boxing Championship, southern regional finals at Merlins in Leysdown. Lee Mills is due to have his first bout for St Marys after recently moving from Medway Boxing academy; and Daniel Woledge, who is also on the GB development squad hopes to be in action for the club, if there is another entry in his weight class.
