Itauma has toughest bout yet

Date: Tue 8th December 2015
14 year old St Marys boxer Karol Itauma was back in action last weekend in Kent finals in Sittingbourne. Fresh off his National development title win the weekend before, he was entering in the open class NABC competition and was up against the experienced J. Dove (Kemsing, Sevenoaks) in the class A under 75kg category. Although undefeated going into his 5th bout, Dove had 10 victories from 16 bouts and his reputation of being a big puncher and experience made him a clear favourite going in. Chatham based Itauma made a good start by scoring well with straight punches to head and body. However, the taller Dove came stroming back with his own counters, to bloody Itaumas nose. Karol retaliated with more clean punches to shade the first round. It was more of the same in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with both boxers having success, but Itaumas superior fitness and workrate just looked to give him the edge and he was awarded the Kent title by a unanimous decision from the judges. Itauma came through his toughest test to date and showed he could take, as well as dish out punishment; which showed a dimension he hadn't yet had to show in a competative match. Two other St Marys boxers who will join Itauma in the regional semi finals are experienced 30 bout boxers Lewis Southgate and Joe Tindall, who both won Kent titles on a walkover, as no one of a suitable standard was entered in their age and weight, so all three St Marys entrants are still flying the flag high for the Chatham club.
