Eede books his place in the semis, Orton GB trial

Date: Tue 24th May 2016

14 year old St Marys boxer Dion Eede was in action in the quarter finals of the National schools competition  near Ipswich on Sat May 21st. Dave Bowler took him and he won on points against the more experienced J.Wiffen (Sudbury ABC Suffolk). Boxing in his opponents home area, Eede was always going to have his work cut out but defeated the Eastern counties champion to book his place in the National Semi finals in Milton Keynes on Sunday May 29th. Once again Eede will be the underdog as his opponent is Adam Azim (Pinewood starr ABC). Azim reigning national schoolboy champion, an England international and is favourite to retain his title again. However, the Lordswood based Eede has been in good form and has defeated three good opponents in the competition so far. Azim is coming up in weight, so Eede will hope his extra experience in the under 48kgs weight class and strength will be to his advantage.

Meanwhile at the same time on Saturday, coach Dan Woledge senior was with 11 year olds Luke Hilden and Henry-Lee Wilson at the Peacock Show in East London. According to Dan Woledge, Hilden boxed very well against his Hornchurch ABC opponent and won on points to stretch his undefeated record to two. Wilson boxed well against an opponent from Londons Islington ABC and also impressed in what will probably his last exhibition skills bout. Wilson turns 11 soon, so will be able to have competitive bouts. Callum Boden and Sean Stokes were also due to box, but both of their opponents failed to show up.

25 year old Louise Orton St Marys senior boxer, clearly impressed on her recent England training camp as she been invited to a team GB Boxing trial in June. This should fill the Chatham based boxer with confidence as she represents England in the Tri Nations championships in Scotland this coming weekend May 28-29th. If she performs well, it will boost her case for a place on the GB squad.
