Danny Sanders Wins Kent Title

Date: Wed 26th October 2016

17 year old Danny Sanders had a Kent NABGC championship final against R. Todd (Hornets ABC, Ramsgate) in Sittingbourne on Thursday Oct 20th. Sanders could have been forgiven for having a few nerves in his first bout in a national championship. Having been guilty of starting slowly in the past, Sanders was told by his coaches to start fast and that’s exactly what he did…Sanders went straight in and started throwing combinations at his seaside based opponent Todd in his Class C under 64kgs bout. Just 12 seconds in, Sanders threw a double jab, followed by a straight right hand that detonated on Todds chin, knocking Todd down in the corner. As soon as he collapsed on the ground, it was clear Todd would not recover in 10 seconds and the referee sensibly waved off the count so that Todd could get medical attention. Sanders showed improved maturity to go with his skills and probably surprised himself, as it was his first stoppage win, much less knockout! Thankfully Todd made a quick recovery and regained his feet. Sanders now goes through to box in the Kent V Surrey round at Rumbles Boxing academy this Saturday 29th and has been preparing for what promises to be a much tougher test against the Surrey champion.

On Sat 22nd Oct, 16 Year old Sam Dawson who had recently won two bouts to reach the National jnr novice semi finals at Ipswich Football ground.  Having chalked up 5 straight victories, Dawson came up against L. O’Docherty (Chelmsford) who boasted more experience,  losing just 2 out of his 10 bouts. When the taller Dawson worked at range, he had success but the muscular Essex champion managed to bull his way forward and score with too many short hooks on the inside. Although Dawson competed, there were no complaints from the St Marys corner when O’Docherty received the points verdict and booked his place in this weekends final.  Dawson has however done very well since starting boxing last season, and has shown he could be a future prospect if he continues to train hard and stay dedicated
