Danny Barrett wins semi final against Repton lad

Date: Wed 26th October 2016

Danny Barrett won his semi final bout against Thomas Bennett of Repton Boys Club with a split decision points win in Ipswich on Saturday and booked himself a place in the final in Nottingham this weekend.

It was a close very skillful bout with Danny winning the first 2 rounds comfortably, Bennett won the last round but Danny did enough to win the bout. We were over the moon as its a massive achievement all round, as Danny will be the first senior to represent St Mary's in a national final since Tom Dallas in 2005- if Danny wins he will be the first senior national champion in all competitions since Johnny Armour in 1990 for the saints, also as a coach this is my first finalist since taking over the seniors 4 years ago and could be my first ever national champion so it's a massive occasion for all of us this weekend. We're so proud of Dan and how far he's come since joining us from Strood abc, he's had 9 bouts winning 8 of them, he's won a Haringay box cup gold medal and now he's in a national final, so we hope he can bring the tittle back to Chatham and put his name in the famous St Mary's history books.
