Club Home Show 2013.

St Mary's held its first home show in Medway for 7 years, after securing a new local venue at KIngs Rochester Sports Centre.

Although all the clubs carded boxers have trained hard in the build up to this event, not all were able to matched, with club match maker Dave Bowler working tirelessly to try and get as many as possible of his clubs boxers on there home show. Although Dave managed to secure a total of 15 bouts, 4 clubs were lost at late notice, leaving 11 bouts for the show.

His efforts left a great evening of boxing for the people of Medway, and the visiting clubs and supporters.

First up was Charlie Hickford of St Mary's vs Tariq Aguis of Dagenham.

The boxers who have had two previous encounters,opened the show with a classy performance. Both boys showing skill well beyond there  years. Although both had success, Agius was awarded the decision and the award for best away boxer.

Next up in his first bout for St Mary's was Tyler Elliot.  Elliot was pitted against George Palmer of Farnham Warriors in a under 31 kg contest. Tyler wearing the " superman" logo on his shorts lived up to the image with a outstanding performance to earn him his first win for St Mary's.

Dominic Nugent St Mary's vs Sammy Hobbs Smith Swanley under 36 kgs. In only his second outing  for the club, Nugent started strong, landing with clean shots throughout the contest. His hard work earn't him his second straight victory.

 Joe Scarratt St Mary's  was facing Steleo Ramadan of Dagenham. Both boxers in there first bouts meet in the center of the ring, with both trading quality work and having success. Southpaw Ramadan was awarded the judges decision of a fantastic contest that had the crowd on there feet.

Cameron Beech, St Mary's vs Billy Revel Burton Park, again was a crowd pleaser. Both the boxers trading shots, with Cameron's work to head and body awarding him the decision. Beech remains undefeated, and looks a great prospect for the future.

Again in his first bout for St Marys, Danny Sanders was facing Mattia Pezzato from Westree. Sanders efforts in training paid off in this hard fought contest, which again proved to be a real crowd pleaser to all. Sanders was awarded a much deserved win.

Last years Schoolboy National Semi Finalist for St Mary's, Tom O Sullivan was matched against Maxim Burke from Southend. Tom boxed behind a piston like jab, and although his strong opponent tried to take the fight to him, Sullivan stuck to his boxing and was awarded a unanimous decision from the judges.

Although hard to choose from the quality of the contests on show, the bout of the night was awarded to  the contest between Lewis Southgate St Mary's vs Jack Freeman Southend. The boxers who have meet before, both looked eager at the referees instructions to begin the contest. The strong boxer from Southend came to fight, but Southgate remained disciplined and his work rate, quality and stylish boxing were never in doubt, and Lewis was awarded the unanimous decision. 

The juniors boxers now made way for the youth and senior bouts. Representing St Mary's at 67 kgs was  Frank Collins vs Anthony  Chamberlin from Whitstable. Both Kent boxers put in a gritty performance, with clear and heavy shots landing from both boxers. The judges were faced with a tough choice in this very close bout, with the boxer from Whitstable getting the decission.

The first senior boxer up from St Mary's, Lee Francis was faced with an opponent from Battlebridge. The boxers both identical in style and size entertained the crowd with quality and pression. HIgh workrates from both showed the dedication and determination for victory. Francis was awarded the victory by judges unanimously.

Last up was Dominic Mulcahy St Mary's vs James Fowler Rusthall Tonbridge Wells. Another thrilling contest had the large crowd on there feet. Dominic's classy boxing was not enough with the verdict just edging towards Fowler by a majority decision. Senior coach Matt Bowler was full of praise for his boxer, who in his own words had made him very proud.

The club would like to thank former St Mary's boxer, and WBO World Champion Johnny Armour, former British Champion Julius Francis and current Heavy weight Tom Dallas, another St Mary's amateur for there help in presenting trophies and advice and encouragement to all the young boxers at the event.
