Charlie's first bout and he wins

Date: Tue 23rd May 2017

10 year old Charlie Sanders had his debut competitive bout for St Marys, held on Friday 23rd May at the Fairburn ABC Dinner show at the Prince Regent Hotel South Woodford. He was up against home boxer Jay Basi who was taking part in his second bout. Sanders started the bout looking the stronger of the two, he edged the home boxer onto the ropes and landed some firm shots.  In the second round Basi started fast and tried to take control of the bout but Charlie used his Jab more and moved effectively to avoid Basi’s punches. Charlie came out strong in the third round to finish the bout with a very high work rate, switching his attack to the body and head to take the win from the home favourite. Overall a very solid debut from Charlie, he looks like a good prospect for the future and I’m sure this will be the first of many wins for the club.
