Busy weekend for St Marys.

Date: Fri 8th November 2013

Danny sanders after his 2nd straight win.

10 year old Tommy Windmill represented St Marys in his first ever skills bout on a Whitestable last Friday night (8th). Up against the home boxer L. Foredyce, he could have been forgiven for having some nerves in front of a packed dinner show crowd. However, Windmill was calm and composed and boxed well over the 3 rounds, landing several clean backhands through his taller opponents southpaw guard. With skills bouts,  no decision is awarded  and both boxers hands are raised, but the youngster showed he could handle the occasion and acquitted himself well.

14 Year old Tom O’Sullivan was also in action for St Marys in Berinsfield (just outside of Oxford on Sunday (10th). Up against C. Elms (Bracknall) he faces an opponent with a very similar record and the bout was evenly matched. The tall O’Sullivan started brightly, connecting with several straight punches on the oncoming Elmes. However, despite being implored by his coaches to use his superior reach and jab more, he waited too long and started to get pegged back by Elmes, who was awarded a points decision.

Danny Sanders boxed well for a clear points decision on the Horsham show to take his record to 2-0. He used his height and reach advantages over his opponent to run out a clear winner.
